Highway 11 :: My creative thesis which was the final product of my Master of Arts degree -- a collection of interconnected short stories that all take place along the route of US-11. I still have a great deal of editing, revising, adding, subtracting, etc. -- however, I am quite pleased that I have my own citation in the University of Tennessee Library.
Natural Bridge :: The original version of "Natural Bridge." This story won 1st Place Fiction in ETSU's 2002 The Mockingbird. Any resemblance to persons either living or dead should not be taken seriously. Hence the word fiction. It was intensely edited and rewritten for its inclusion in the Highway 11 collection. Amateur Astronomy :: This story won 3rd Place Fiction in ETSU's 2001 The Mockingbird. I started it while I was waiting at the ETSU Observatory for astronomy lab to begin, listening to Donovan's song from the movie Brother Sun, Sister Moon. falling stars :: This story was published in the spring 2000 issue of Scribbling Mob. picking locks :: This story was published in the spring 2000 issue of Scribbling Mob. The small section 'wham, bam, thank you mam, and it's back to the old pond scum' refers to Neil Gaiman's Brief Lives. the first few days of life :: This story was published in the spring 2000 issue of Scribbling Mob. a letter to my unborn daughter :: That's not a typo - I had difficulty deciding how to spell/pronounce Aisling's name - 'Aislin' was one of the many variations. 'if you can dream it, you can become it' is a quote from William Arthur Ward that was on the cover of my first journal. This was published in the fall 1999 edition of Scribbling Mob. seven stories :: This story was published in the Spring 1999 edition of Collage. act one, scene three (a midwinter's daydream) :: This story won first place in the 1997 WSCC Creative Writing Competition, and was published in Among These Hills and in West Greene High School's 1997 edition of Trails West. It was also published in the fall '97 edition of Collage. The riddles were borrowed from Kit Williams' Masquerade, because I could never be so clever. rainbow trout :: The last of a series of rants published on The Malkavian Web Page under the psuedonym 'another alice.' ollie-ollie-in-come-free :: Another piece of work published on The Malkavian Web Page. but what if i'm a mermaid :: Yet another of a series of 'rants' published on The Malkavian Web Page under the name 'another alice.' The title is an allusion to a line in Tori Amos's 'Silent All These Years.' marianne's favourite raincoat :: Another 'rant' published on The Malkavian Web Page. Very obvious references to 'Marianne' by Tori Amos, 'Famous Blue Raincoat' by Leonard Cohen, and 'AnnaBell Lee' by E.A. Poe. butterfly :: A bizzare prose-poem-rant that was published on The Malkavian Web Page under the psuedonym 'another alice.' ants and other stories :: This story was published in the 1996 edition of the WSCC anthology, Among These Hills. It was also published in West Greene High School's 1996 edition of Trails West. There are many Gaiman references in this story, which I appologize for - the most blatant of which being the part about 'chicken and telephone ice cream'. Sorry, Neil. |
